En el centro de la ciudad de Bad Vilbel (en la parte norte de los jardines del balneario), se alzan los restos de un castillo amurallado a orillas del Nidda. En su d\u00eda fue la residencia de los Caballeros de Vilbel y sirvi\u00f3 como sede oficial de la administraci\u00f3n electoral de Maguncia desde 1581 hasta 1796. Las partes m\u00e1s antiguas del castillo datan del siglo XII.<\/p>

En 1986, se desarroll\u00f3 la idea de abrir un teatro al aire libre en las ruinas de este castillo amurallado. En el verano de 1987 se celebr\u00f3 el primer Festival del Castillo de Bad Vilbel. Debido a la buena respuesta del festival, se decidi\u00f3 convertirlo en un evento regular.<\/p>

En 1990, la oferta de una producci\u00f3n propia anual se ampli\u00f3 con varios eventos: un teatro infantil, matin\u00e9s literarios y, por primera vez, el Festival del Castillo de Ettlingen. Desde 1995, el Burgkeller tambi\u00e9n se utiliza para espect\u00e1culos.\u00a0Desde 2011, el teatro para ni\u00f1os y familias se ha ampliado como un nuevo enfoque, con producciones propias de tres g\u00e9neros diferentes: \u00f3pera, musical y drama.<\/span><\/p>
